Mountain Monarchs Alaskan AdventuresMountain Monarchs of Alaska

Mountain Monarchs is a low volume, high quality guiding service dedicated toward the legal harvest of old, mature, big game animals. Although we specialize in top quality Dall Rams and Record Class Grizzly and Brown Bears, we also conduct fully customized hunts for Barren-Ground Caribou, Coastal and Interior Black Bear, Alaska-Yukon Moose, Wolf and Wolverine.

As a Master Guide and Outfitter, Dave Leonard holds three hunting areas in units 24, 23 and 9. Through close working relationships with other Master and Registered Guides, he is able to offer hunts in units 25 and 7. This enables us to offer a good variety of opportunities for outstanding trophy animals.

  Western Arctic

The Noatak River is the largest, unspoiled mountain ringed watershed in North America. Nestled in the heart of the DeLong Mountains, my concession in the beautiful Noatak Preserve is home to a a very healthy and still increasing population of Grizzly Bears. We are situated in the middle of the migratory path of the Western Arctic Caribou herd which was recently surveyed at 600,000 animals! The rivers are pristine, and the fishing for Arctic Char is the finest in the world. The Eskimo village of Kotzebue is the point of outfitting. It is serviced daily by Alaska Airlines.

                                                        Central Arctic, Brooks Range

The Gates of the Arctic National Park spans over 8 million acres of prime game habitat. We hunt to the south and east of the park. This area has good minerals, feed, and genetics for producing thick-horned trophy rams. If you are looking for a mixed bag hunt, the area hosts good hunting for Barren-Ground Caribou, Alaskan-Yukon Moose, Grizzly Bear, Black Bear and Wolf. Fishing for Char, Grayling and Lake Trout is unsurpassed. Don't forget your gold pan either! Bettles is serviced daily from Fairbanks by commuter airplane.

  Coastal

Tributaries of Western Cook Inlet have good returns of all the Salmon species in the summer and fall. Custom fishing and bear viewing day trips are available on request. The Kenai Peninsula is serviced twelve times daily from Anchorage by commuter airplane.

                                                                          Alaska Peninsula

The lower portion of unit 9 is, without dispute, the finest trophy Brown Bear hunting in North America. The bear reigns king in these parts. Due to foul weather, ancient genetics and an overabundance of Salmon, these bears can live to nearly 30 years and reach fall weights of 1,500 lbs. They are the world's largest carnivore and very plentiful in this area. Average size bears here square at 9 feet with an occasional 11 footer being harvested.

Hunts for these bears are based from a legendary lodge near Port Moller. We consistently take good quality bears and the lodge and support group is first class.

Cold Bay is the point of outfitting and is serviced six days a week from Anchorage by Peninsula Airways.
